Sketches and Ideas

After exploring about a half dozen different concepts, we decided to go with a simple holiday-themed pattern that also included some HR and office-related iconography, to celebrate Justworks' mission of helping small businesses. Most of the illustrations started off as pencil sketches, which were then scanned and recreated digitally.

Digital Illustration

I recreated my digital sketches in Adobe Illustrator by hand, using a Wacom tablet. Once I was happy with the arrangement of the illustrations, I added shading to some of the objects, to give them a more elegant, two-tone look. Eventually, I turned this design into a repeating pattern, so that we could re-use it for other, related Justworks holiday-themed projects.

Color Variations

Once the artwork was complete, I put together a few different color variations to choose from. At this point I knew I wanted to use foil stamping for the main outline color, but we had to decide what colors to use for the three different card variations. The goal was to have all three cards use colors that are compatible with the Justworks brand color palette.

Printing

The cards were printed with two colors and foil stamping, and the results were absolutely stunning. The whole team was thrilled with the final result.
